Yellow gold 6 piece name grillz with script lettering across the front teeth and open face canines on a dental model

Can You Get Your Name or Initials on Grillz? Name, Letter and Engraved Grillz Explained

Yes, you can get your name, initials, or a single letter on custom grillz. A name can be cut across your front teeth as a nameplate, a letter can be engraved or embossed on one cap, and initials can be cut out of open face caps so your tooth shows through. Every one of these is handmade from a mold of your own teeth, which is what makes a name grill one of a kind. Here is how each style works, how many letters fit, and how to plan one as a gift, from a family shop that has made grillz in Central Texas since 1991.

What are the ways to put a name or letter on grillz?

There are four main styles. The right one depends on how bold you want the lettering and how many teeth you want to cover.

Style How the lettering is made Best for
Nameplate grillz A full name or word is cut as one plate across the four front teeth, usually with caps on the canines to frame it A name, nickname, or word that reads across the room
Engraved letter cap One letter is cut into the face of a solid cap A single initial on one tooth
Embossed letter caps Raised lettering stands up from the surface of the cap Initials with texture and depth on two teeth
Cut-out letter caps Block letters are cut out of open face caps, so your natural tooth shows through the letter A subtle initial statement on a few teeth

Nameplate grillz: your name across your front teeth

This is the boldest option. Our 6 piece name grillz with open face canines spells your word across four incisor caps, with open face caps on each canine framing it. If you love script, the cursive nameplate with open heart canines sets the name in flowing cursive with a heart cut out of each canine cap.

Engraved and embossed letters: one initial, a lot of meaning

A single letter is the easiest way into personalized grillz. The single cap with an Old English letter puts one gothic initial on any tooth you choose, top or bottom. For two teeth with raised lettering, our embossed letter double cap gives the letters real depth.

Cut-out letters: open face initials

Cut-out letters keep things light. The 3 piece open face letter grillz cuts a block initial into each cap, so the letter is outlined in metal and your tooth fills it in.

How many letters fit on name grillz?

On a nameplate across the four front teeth, we recommend 9 letters or fewer. Longer names are possible, but the letters have to shrink to fit the row, so shorter names sit larger and read cleaner. Every smile is a different width, so we check that your name fits your teeth and reach out before production if anything needs adjusting.

Grillz are made to fit each person individually, and designs may differ based on dental structure. That also changes how much room the lettering has, which is why we lay out longer names with you first. If you have a longer name in mind, someone from the Gold Time family will be happy to help you lay out the lettering before you order. Call or text the VIP and custom line at (254) 294-7865.

Which fonts can you get on grillz?

Our name and letter styles come in three lettering looks:

  • Script or cursive: flowing and connected, the classic nameplate look.
  • Old English or gothic: bold, traditional lettering that reads clearly on a single cap.
  • Block letters: clean, simple shapes that work well as cut-outs.

Want a different font, stone-set lettering, or a layout that is not listed? Those are quoted one design at a time. Request a custom quote and we will lay it out and price it with you.

Can name grillz have moissanite or color?

Yes. Some of our personalized designs add stones or color to the lettering. The 3 piece Mrs. grillz has moissanite hand set into the cursive script. Moissanite is its own gemstone, not a diamond, and we always say which stone a piece carries. For a diamond quote, start with a base design and message us, and we will quote the upgrade.

What metal should name grillz be?

Our name and letter grillz come in sterling silver, gold plated or rose plated silver, and solid 10K or 14K gold in yellow, white, or rose, with black plated silver on some designs. Each is a real choice:

  • Sterling silver gives a bright white shine and makes the lettering pop.
  • Gold plated silver gives the gold look on a silver base. It is plated, not solid gold, and we say so plainly.
  • Solid 10K gold is durable, real gold for everyday wear.
  • Solid 14K gold has a richer color and more gold content.

Only solid gold is hallmarked with its karat. Silver and plated silver are not stamped. Still choosing? Our guide to 10K vs 14K gold grillz walks through the difference.

How do you order name grillz?

  1. Order and type your name or letter in the personalization box, then double-check the spelling and capital letters.
  2. Your impression kit ships with your order. One kit makes 2 impressions: 2 tries for a top-only or bottom-only grill, or 1 try for a top and bottom set. The putty sets in about 3 minutes.
  3. Mail your impression back. We check it before production starts.
  4. We handcraft your lettering. Production takes 7 to 10 business days once the impression is received and verified.
  5. Your grillz ship with tracking. Plan on 4 to 8 weeks door to door, depending on the design.

Your grill is made from your own impression, and we guarantee it fits that impression, which is why a good mold matters. Our guide on how to take a perfect grillz impression covers every step.

Do name grillz make a good gift?

Yes, and a name or initial makes grillz feel even more personal. The one thing to plan for is the mold: the person wearing the grill takes their own impression, so the surprise is the idea, and the fit comes from them. A few ways to make it work:

  • Give the kit as the reveal. Our impression kit can be bought on its own, and its cost can be credited toward a custom grillz order.
  • Confirm the spelling quietly. Nicknames and spellings vary, so check before you order.
  • Plan around the date. For a birthday, wedding, or the holidays, order about 8 weeks ahead so there is time for the impression to travel and for a refit if one is needed. U.S. rush orders arrive 2 to 3 weeks from purchase.

Every grillz order comes with a gift box. For couples, our Mr. and Mrs. grillz set makes a matching pair. For the full walkthrough, read can you buy grillz as a gift, and for timing, see getting custom grillz in time for your event.

Name grillz questions people ask

Can I put a nickname or a word instead of a name?

Yes. A nickname, a word, or a set of initials all work. Keep a nameplate to 9 letters or fewer for the cleanest look.

Can I choose which tooth gets the letter?

Yes. A single engraved cap can go on any single tooth, top or bottom. Tell us which one in your order notes.

Can you copy a design from a picture?

Send it to us before you order. Custom fonts, layouts, and designs from a reference are quoted one at a time through our custom quote page.

Do I need straight teeth for name grillz?

No. The impression captures your teeth as they are, gaps and all. If you have missing or chipped teeth, text a photo of your smile to (254) 294-7865 before ordering so we can suggest the best layout. See grillz with a gap or missing teeth for more.

How many teeth does a name grill cover?

It depends on the style: one tooth for a single letter, two or three for initials, and six for a full nameplate with canines. Our guide to grillz terms explains what each piece count means.

The short version

For a full name, choose a nameplate and keep it to 9 letters or fewer. For something simpler, a single engraved letter or cut-out initials say a lot on one to three teeth. Pick your metal, check the spelling, and send a good impression, and we will take it from there.
