Yes! You can get custom grillz with a gap between your teeth or with missing teeth. Gaps are handled by either matching the gap in your grillz, filling it with a bar, or adjusting cap widths; missing teeth are usually fine as long as the neighboring teeth are healthy enough to hold the grill in place. Here's the honest breakdown from a family shop that's been handcrafting custom grillz in Central Texas since 1991, including when to call us before ordering.

How gaps in your teeth are handled
Custom grillz are built from a mold of your own teeth, so a gap in your smile shows up in the impression. You have three options for how the finished grillz treats it:
Option 1: Keep the gap visible
The grillz are made as separate pieces that follow the natural gap. Your smile looks the same, just with metal on the teeth you're covering. This is the most popular choice, it looks natural because it is.

Option 2: Widen the cap to close the gap
For small gaps, we can extend the caps slightly to fill the space. The grillz look like one continuous piece across the front of your teeth. Best for gaps of a few millimeters.
Option 3: Add a filler or bar
For larger gaps, we can bridge the space with a decorative bar, often set with moissanite or diamond for a signature look. This turns what some see as an imperfection into a design feature.

When you order, note the gap in your order notes or text (254) 294-7865 with a mouth photo, and we'll get in touch and confirm which option works best before we start crafting.

This is where the honest answer requires more nuance. Here's the straight story:
1 or 2 missing teeth in a row
Usually fine. As long as the teeth on either side of the gap are healthy and strong enough to anchor the grill, we can make a set that either skips the missing tooth entirely (the grill has a gap that matches your mouth) or bridges the space with a decorative filler. We've made thousands of grillz for people with missing teeth over 35 years, this isn't unusual, and it doesn't stop you from having a great-looking custom set.

3 or more missing teeth in a row
Depends on the specifics. A long stretch of missing teeth means less anchoring for the grill, which can affect fit and how the grill sits. In most cases we can still make it work, but we'd rather look at your specific situation before you order.
Front teeth missing
Also case-by-case. Front-tooth grillz depend on the visible teeth for both design and fit. If a front tooth is missing, we can sometimes create the appearance of the tooth with the grill itself, but it needs a design conversation before ordering.
Missing molars or back teeth
Generally not an issue since custom grillz almost always cover front and canine teeth, not molars.
Before you order: send us a photo
If you have any missing teeth or a large gap, do this before you order: text a clear photo of your smile, closed and slightly open, to (254) 294-7865. Include a quick note about which teeth are missing and how long they've been missing. We'll tell you honestly whether we can make grillz for your specific situation, which style will work best, and any adjustments we recommend.
This takes 5 minutes and saves weeks. We'd rather have a real conversation upfront than build grillz that won't work right.
Cases where we might say wait
A few situations where we'll recommend holding off on grillz until something else is resolved:
- Recent dental extractions: the gum needs time to heal (usually several weeks) before an impression will be accurate.
- Loose neighboring teeth: if the teeth that would anchor the grill are already loose, wearing a grill can make things worse.
- Active gum disease or infection: treat first, then order.
- Ongoing dental work: if you're mid-treatment (braces, planned extractions, implants), wait until your bite is stable so your grillz still fit when work is done.
None of these are permanent no's, they're timing calls. Get the dental situation stable, then come back.
The one thing that doesn't matter
Your teeth don't need to be straight, perfectly white, or "camera ready" to look great in grillz. Whatever your teeth look like right now, gapped, crooked, chipped or worn, we've made grillz for someone with a similar mouth. The impression captures your actual teeth, and the grillz are built to fit them exactly.
Design ideas for people with gaps
A few directions our customers with gaps have loved:
- Open face canines with a decorative center bar: highlights the canines, bridges the front gap with a signature detail. See our Open Face Canine and Moissanite Tip.
- 3-piece mixed set with a stone-set center piece: turns the middle of your smile into a focal point. Our 3-Piece Mixed Set can be adapted for this.
- 5-piece set with a moissanite gap bar: a horizontal bar of moissanite bridges the space beautifully. See our Moissanite Gap Bar set.
