The custom grillz process goes through many stages. Here's what actually happens between the moment you mail back your impression and the moment your finished grill ships.
Step 1: The Dental Impression Kit
Every custom grill starts with a mold of your teeth. Once an order is place, we'll ship out the DIY Grillz Impression Kit, which includes dentist-grade, non-toxic putty and trays. Taking the impression takes about three minutes at home. If you want a step-by-step walkthrough of this part specifically, we cover it in How Do Grillz Impression Kits Work? Step-by-Step Guide and How to Take a Perfect Grillz Impression: Step-by-Step Guide.

Step 2: Your Mold Comes Back to the Jeweler
Once you mail your impression back, it becomes the template your jeweler works from. This is the step that makes your grill custom rather than generic: everything downstream is built around the exact shape of your teeth. This is why it is crucial to get the impressions to be as perfect as possible.
Step 3: Casting
Your mold is used to cast the grill in your chosen material, silver, 10K, or 14K gold. Casting is what turns a flat design concept into a three-dimensional piece that actually matches your bite.
Step 4: Finishing and Detail Work
After casting, the piece is hand-finished: edges smoothed, any diamond dust, cutouts, fangs, or stone-setting added, and the surface polished. This is the handmade part of "handmade grillz," and it's where a lot of the character in styles like our Custom 12-Piece Nugget & Diamond Dust Grillz comes from.

Step 5: Quality Check
Before anything ships, we check fit tolerance against your mold, finish quality, and that the design matches what was ordered. This is also where any obvious issues get caught before your set ever leaves the shop.
Step 6: Shipping
Once your set passes quality check, it ships to you. Production, once your mold is in, takes about 7 to 10 days on average, though more complex designs (heavier stone-setting, larger piece counts, intricate cutouts) can run longer. Total time from order to delivery, including impression kit shipping and production, is 4 to 8 weeks depending on the design.
