Custom grillz stay on your teeth through friction fit, not glue or clips. The metal is shaped from an exact mold of your teeth, so it grips your tooth surfaces like a glove and holds itself in place through natural pressure and the shape of the metal wrapping slightly around each tooth. No adhesive is involved, and none is needed if the fit is right.
How Friction Fit Actually Works
When you take a dental impression, whether at home with an impression kit or in person with us, that mold captures the exact ridges, gaps, and curves of your teeth. We use that mold to hand fabricate a grill that's essentially a negative of your tooth shape in metal. Because the interior of the grill matches your teeth so closely, it seats over them and stays put the same way a well-fitted ring stays on a finger: through contact and shape, not adhesive.
Grillz are made to fit each person individually, and designs may differ based on dental structure, which is exactly why a mold taken from your teeth is the part that actually keeps a grill secure, more than the metal or the design on top of it.
So Why Doesn't It Need Glue?
Dental adhesive is built for things that don't have a custom-molded fit to begin with, like dentures. A custom grill isn't in that category. If a grill needs glue to stay on, that's usually a sign the fit itself is off, not a normal part of wearing one. We don't recommend using adhesive on our grillz, since it can trap moisture against your teeth and make a properly fitted grill harder to remove.

Get the impression kitWhat Actually Makes Grillz Come Loose
| Cause | What's happening |
|---|---|
| Impression wasn't fully accurate | The grill was never a perfect match to your teeth to begin with |
| Teeth have shifted since the mold was taken | Even small shifts over months can loosen an otherwise good fit |
| Grill is being worn on the wrong tooth position | Top and bottom pieces, and left/right orientation, matter for the fit to seat correctly |
| Normal wear over years of use | Metal can very gradually lose its tight grip with heavy daily wear |
Keeping Your Fit Secure Over Time
Take your impression carefully the first time (our step-by-step impression guide covers the details that matter most), seat your grill fully each time you put it in rather than resting it halfway on, and store it in its case when it's out so the shape doesn't get bent or warped. If your fit ever changes noticeably, don't force it or try to bend it back into shape yourself, reach out to us instead.

Do grillz need glue or adhesive to stay on?
No. A correctly fitted custom grill stays on through friction fit alone. Needing glue is a sign the fit needs to be corrected, not a normal step.
Will grillz fall out when I eat or talk?
A properly fitted grill shouldn't. Some people remove grillz to eat as a personal preference, but a snug, correctly molded fit will hold through normal talking, smiling, and light contact.
Do grillz clip onto your teeth like a retainer?
Not exactly. There's no clip or wire mechanism, the entire inner surface of the grill is shaped to your teeth, so the fit itself is what holds it in place.
It Starts With Your Impression
Everything about how well a grill stays on traces back to the mold. Our DIY Grillz Impression Kit uses dentist-grade, non-toxic putty so you can take an accurate impression at home in about three minutes.
