Grillz are custom-fit teeth jewelry made from a mold of your own teeth, so the fit is yours and yours alone. If you've never bought a set before, here's everything you need to know before you order, from what they're made of to how long the process actually takes.
What Are Custom Grillz?
A grill is a removable piece of jewelry shaped to snap over your teeth. Unlike the one-size novelty grillz sold at costume shops, a custom set starts with an impression of your own teeth, so the final piece follows the exact contour of your bite. That's the whole reason custom costs more than generic: you're paying for a piece that's made for your mouth, not a stock mold that happens to sort of fit.
How the Ordering Process Works, Start to Finish
Here's the full timeline from click to unboxing:
- Pick your style and place your order. Choose piece count, material, and design (more on that below).
- We mail you an impression kit. This is a dental mold kit with putty and trays, the same type dentists use.
- You take your impression at home. It takes about three minutes with the DIY Grillz Impression Kit, and the putty is non-toxic and dentist-grade.
- You mail the mold back to us. This becomes the template for your grill.
- We cast and finish your set. Production runs 7 to 10 business days on average once your mold is in hand, though more complex designs can take longer.
- Your grill ships. Start to finish, the whole process is 4 to 8 weeks depending on the design.

Standard karats are silver, 10K, and 14K. Silver is the most budget-friendly entry point, while 10K and 14K gold hold up better over years of wear and carry a warmer tone. If you're torn between the two gold options, 10K vs 14K Gold Grillz: Which Should You Choose? walks through the durability and price differences in detail.

How to Pick the Right Style for Your First Set
A few questions to narrow it down:
- Budget: Grillz start at $149 and climb with material, piece count, and style. Sky is the limit when it comes to customization.
- Piece count: Smaller sets (2 to 3 piece) are a lower-commitment way to try grillz for the first time. Larger 6, 8, or 12-piece sets make a bigger, bolder statement.
- Style: Open-face, solid, fangs, cutout, dust finish. Each design changes the look up a little bit. The custom aspect of grillz allows you to style it to match your own aesthetic.
- Top, bottom, or both: Most first-time buyers start with a top set. Our most popular grillz style for beginners is a 2 or 3 piece.
Our Custom Handmade Box Dust Triple Cap Grillz is one of our most popular first sets: a 3-piece design that's easy to wear daily without a huge upfront commitment. For a deeper walkthrough of narrowing down your first design, check out How to Choose the Right Grillz for Your First Set.
