Yes, you can get custom grillz if you have veneers, crowns, or dental implants. Your grill is molded from an impression of your teeth exactly as they are now, and restorative work doesn't change how that process works. The metal fits the surface it's given, whether that surface is natural enamel or a crown. A couple of timing details are worth knowing before you order.
Why Restorative Dental Work Doesn't Get in the Way
A custom grill doesn't know or care what's underneath the surface it's molded to. Whether a tooth is natural, veneered, crowned, or replaced by an implant, your impression captures its current shape, and we build the grill to match that shape. There's no extra step or workaround needed on our end.
Grillz are made to fit each person individually, and designs may differ based on dental structure, and that includes dental structure that's been restored or replaced. The custom molding process treats it the same as any other tooth surface.
Timing: Let New Work Fully Heal First
If you've recently had an implant placed, a crown set, or veneers bonded, give it time to fully heal and settle before taking your impression. Swelling around a new implant or a crown that hasn't fully seated can throw off the mold, which means your grill won't fit as well once everything settles. If you're unsure whether you've healed enough to take an accurate impression, check with your dentist first.

Once you are healed

This is the part people don't always think about. If you replace a veneer, get a new crown, or have any other restorative work redone down the line, the tooth shape underneath your grill may change slightly, even if it's a small change. That can affect how your existing grill fits. If that happens, you don't need a whole new grill, a refit from a fresh impression usually solves it. Call the VIP and custom line at (254) 294-7865 and we will walk you through a refit.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will wearing grillz damage a crown or veneer?
Normal wear shouldn't damage properly bonded restorative work. As with any grill, avoid forcing it on or off, and remove it before eating to reduce pressure on any dental work.
Can I wear grillz with a dental implant?
Yes, once the implant has fully healed and the surrounding area has settled, an impression can be taken the same as with natural teeth.
Do I need to tell you about veneers, crowns, or implants when ordering?
It's not required, but it helps. If you're taking your own impression at home, being extra careful around any restorative work helps make sure the mold captures it accurately.
What's the difference between this and grillz vs. veneers?
This article is about wearing grillz alongside veneers, crowns, or implants you already have. If you're instead trying to decide between getting grillz or getting veneers as a permanent cosmetic option, see Grillz vs. Veneers: What's the Difference.
